The Ruins

Plot: A group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when they, along with a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins.

Here is a very simple review for this movie: "Killer weeds are not scary, period." Even if the weeds can make ringtone noises and make you hallucinate. The reason why I seen this movie was an attempt to view the gore, which had some, but not enough to save this movie. There were a few bright spots as far as acting: Jena Malone (who played in Donnie Darko as Donnies' girlfriend) and Shawn Ashmore (as Ice-Man from the X-Men movies).

If you're still not convinced, then please wait for "Red Box" to rent or the "Sci Fi Channel."

M. Nght Shyamalan

I just saw "The Happening" . I had really high expectations considering his previous lack lusters "Lady in the Water" , and the long drawn out Twilight Zone episode "The Village" ; both films I despised. I really enjoyed "Signs," thought "Unbreakable" was good (after a second watch), and "The Sixth Sense" -- which turned out decent but had no replay value.

The Happening plot: A paranoid thriller about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity.

What I like: The "R" rating and the death scenes. I know that may seem morbid, but hey, I really love gore. The movie also had a good start and good pace until the last 20 minutes or so.

End Result: This is one of his better efforts but not the best. It had some intense moments and decent acting, but the film just did not feel complete.

The Message in the movie: Give a hoot don't pollute!!!

Horror Movie Reviews

Plot: After receiving an African fertility mask as a gift Ellen (Blythe Metz) tells her husband William (Luciano Szafir) that she's been attacked by masked phantom called 'The Nightmare Man'.

How bad is this movie?: It's extremley bad; one of the worst movies I've seen in my entire life. Terrible pace and dialouge, horrible acting, no scare factor at all. This movie actually hurts the credibility of "Horrorfest 8 Films To Die For."

Plot: Still mourning over her recently deceased boyfriend, a pregnant woman becomes haunted by a mysterious woman.

Why I liked it: Good pace, intense, bloody and gory. One of my favorite movies this year so far.

Gore level: High.
